The second installment of Masashi Kishimoto's original Naruto manga series was also the primary inspiration for the 500-episode anime television series Naruto: Shippuden. It focused on the young ninja Naruto Uzumaki and his associates and takes place during the Naruto universe two and a half years after the first series. Hayato Date is the series' director, and Pierrot's and TV Tokyo are the producers of it. TV Tokyo started airing it on February 15, 2007, and it ended on March 23, 2017.On January 2, 2009, eight Naruto: Shippuden episodes with English subtitles had been made available on the official Naruto website by Viz Media and Crunchyroll. In the two weeks that followed, Viz Media said that the series would be made available on the iTunes Store on July 24, 2009. On September 29, 2009, the series was initially made available on DVD in North America. On October 28, 2009, Naruto: Shippuden's English dub debuted in the United States on Disney XD.After 98 episodes, Naruto: Shippuden ceased presenting on Disney XD on November 5, 2011. Since its October 2012 the beginning, the English dub has been available for streaming on the Neon Alley online channel. Viz started to provide subtitled copies of some of the most recent episodes of Naruto: Shippuden, one week after they debuted in Japan. Every Thursday after that, a new episode is posted to the Naruto website. Starting on December 29 of that year with episode 99, the dubbed episodes released weekly until March 25, 2016, nearly a month prior to Neon Alley's ending, following 338 episodes. On January 5, 2014, Adult Swim's Toonami programming block started showing the anime in its entire form, starting from Episode 1 in an uncut format. From May 2021 until September 2024, the network began airing already unaired dubbed episodes on the 339th episode.
