Masashi Kishimoto's manga series of the same name provided the model for the Japanese anime television show Naruto. Naruto Uzumaki, teens ninja who aspires to be the Hokage, ruler of his village, and wants acceptance from his peers, is the protagonist of the tale. The anime series is separated into two parts, just like the manga. The first series is set approximately Naruto's preteen years and keeps the title of the original manga. His teens are the basis for the second series, Naruto: Shippuden, which is a direct sequel. 

Pierrot animated both anime series, which Aniplex produced and Viz Media licensed for North America. An English adaptability designed by Viz Media shown on Cartoon Network and YTV from September 2005 to December 2009, while the preliminary anime series went on for 220 episodes in TV. The second series, Shippuden, continued over 500 episodes from February 2007 to March 2017 and appeared on TV Tokyo. The first 98 episodes of Shippuden's adaptation in English were aired on Disney XD in the US between October 2009 and November 2011. In January 2014, the show was moved to Adult Swim's Toonami programming block, where it began over with the first episode.In the process of becoming one of Viz Media's highest-earning assets, the Naruto anime had a major the monetary effect and changed culture. 

While the Shippuden series was commonly listed in the top most-watched in Japan, Viz Media sold over 3 million anime home video copies by 2019 and was the third most-watched series in the US by 2020. The Naruto anime's adaptation of Kishimoto's graphic style and storytelling pace was met with favorable reactions from critics. nevertheless critics praised its intense battle scenes, compelling character development, and profound impact on emotions. Naruto: Shippuden received praise for its balanced plot, well-developed character relationships, adult tone, and boosted animation.The ultimate 85 episodes are special because they incorporate story points that were absent in the manga, whereas the early 135 episodes took inspiration from Part I of the manga. When the manga was turned into an anime series, Tetsuya Nishio was charged with creating Naruto's characters; Kishimoto had asked Nishio to do them.
