Toei Animation is the producer of the Japanese anime television series Dragon Ball Z. As the follow-up to the 1986 Dragon Ball television series, it is a part of the Dragon Ball media franchise and adapts the final 325 chapters of Akira Toriyama's original Dragon Ball manga series. It was then dubbed for television in at least 81 other countries. As he and his friends protect Earth from evildoers like extraterrestrial androids and magical monsters, Dragon Ball Z carries on Son Goku's exploits into adulthood. The narrative simultaneously chronicles the growth of Goku's adversaries and the existence of his son, Gohan. 

The manga chapters that comprise the series' plot were first published by Viz Media in Japan beneath the Dragon Ball Z label because of the series' popularity in the US. The popularity of the anime has also led to the creation of a variety of media and items, like as video games, trading cards, soundtracks, home video releases, and movies, which together now make up the majority of the Dragon Ball franchise's content. With many re-releases and adaptations, including a remastered broadcast called Dragon Ball Z Kai, Dragon Ball Z continues to be a cultural icon. Since then, Dragon Ball Z has been followed by the midquel series Dragon Ball Super and the sequel series Dragon Ball GT. Exactly five years shortly after the conclusion of the series Dragon Ball, Son Goku is now an adolescents and the father of his son, Gohan, in Dragon Ball Z.

After arriving on Earth in a spaceship, an intelligent alien named Raditz finds Goku and tells him that the guy really a long-lost elder brother and that they were both from the Saiyans, a nearly extinct elite species of extraterrestrial warriors. Having been brought to Earth as a baby to conquer the world, Goku lost all recollection of his goal and his bloodthirsty Saiyan nature after being severely beaten in the head shortly after arriving.Since their ancestral surface Vegeta has been destroyed, Raditz informs Goku that they are the only Saiyans left, along with two more powerful elites, Vegeta and Nappa. Goku is asked by Raditz to join the surviving Saiyans and assist in the conquest of worlds. Raditz kidnaps Gohan and threatens to kill him if Goku doesn't kill 100 people in the 24 hours that follow after Goku declines to join and assist them. Raditz then defeats Goku and Krillin with a single blow. In order to beat Raditz and save his kid, Goku chooses to work with his bitter rival Piccolo, whose work was also vanquished by radical in a previous battle.
