J. A. Bayona is the director of the 2018 science fiction action movie Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which was co-written by Derek Connolly & Colin Trevorrow. The second film in the Jurassic World series & the fifth globally in the Jurassic Park the movie series, it is the follow-up to Jurassic World. In order to save the surviving dinosaurs from an imminent volcanic explosion, Owen Grady & Claire Dearing travel to the fictitious Central American islands of Isla Nublar. However, they uncover the mercenary team's covert plans to transport the dinosaurs to the US mainland. The film was shot in Hawaii and the United Kingdom between February and July of 2017.

On May 21, 2018, Fallen Kingdom made its theatrical debut at the WiZink Centre in Madrid. Universal Pictures distributed the film throughout the United States of America on June 22. Fallen Kingdom as the sequel to the most expensive movie ever filmed, with a $432 million budget. With a global box office total of nearly $1.3 billion, the movie became the third Jurassic movie to reach the $1 billion milestone. It was also the third highest-grossing movie of 2018 & the 12th highest-grossing movie of all time. Critics gave it mixed reviews; some questioned the storyline and thought the series had reached its end, while others applauded the graphics, cinematography, soundtrack, and darker tone. In June 2022, the follow-up, Jurassic World Dominion, which was made available.

A small mercenary squad comes on the deserted island of Isla Nublar six months following the Indominus Rex event in order to gather DNA from the dinosaur's remains within the lagoon. A two-person crew gathers a sample of bones, and the Mosasaurus eats their submersible. The crew is attacked by a Tyrannosaurus, but the survivors manage to flee in a helicopter with the sample. The Mosasaurus enters the open ocean by swimming through the partially cracked underwater gates. Three years afterwards, a U.S. Congress committee discusses whether to protect the dinosaurs on Isla Nublar from a volcanic explosion that is about to occur. Dr. Ian Malcolm, a chaotician, testifies that in order to undo John Hammond's incorrect cloning, the dinosaurs should die naturally.

To save the creatures, Claire Dearing, the former operations manager of Jurassic World, founded the Dinosaur Protection Group. Sir Benjamin Lockwood, Hammond's ex-partner, extends an invitation to Claire to visit his home in Northern California following the Senate's decision against government intervention in the animals' rescue. The plan to move the remains of the dinosaurs to an alternate refuge is revealed by Lockwood & his Eli Mills. In order to find the creatures, especially Blue, the sole living Velociraptor, Claire must restore the park's tracking system. To assist in capturing Blue, she enlists the aid of former Velociraptor trainer Owen Grady. Dr. Malcolm announces a new Jurassic era in which dinosaurs and humans must cohabit during a recent U.S. Senate session. The liberated dinosaurs are shown wandering the woods and the outskirts of cities in the concluding images.
