Colin Trevorrow, who collaborated on the script along Amanda Silver, Rick Jaffa, and Derek Connolly, is the director of the 2015 American scientific-fiction action movie Jurassic World. Jurassic World is set on the same fictitious island of Isla Nublar, off the Pacific coastline of Costa Rica, 22 years after the final moments of Jurassic Park. The island has been home to a popular theme park featuring cloned dinosaurs called Jurassic World for many years, fulfilling John Hammond's goal. When a genetic dinosaur breaks out of its cage and proceeds on a rampage, the park is thrown into disarray, and more threats are created by a plot by park employees.

In 2004, Universal Pictures planned to start making the fourth Jurassic Park movie, which would be released in the middle of 2005. However, the project languished in development hell as the script was revised many times. The concept of a working dinosaur park was investigated by authors Jaffa and Silver at the request of executive producer Steven Spielberg. Trevorrow used the same concept when he and Connolly were working on a fresh script after Trevorrow was recruited as director in 2013. Filming took place in Louisiana - Hawaii between April and August of 2014. Similar to the other movies, Legacy Effects used life-sized animatronics while Lucasfilm's Advanced Light & Magic used computer-generated imagery to construct the dinosaurs.

On Isla Nublar, Zach and Gray Mitchell, brothers, go to Jurassic World, dinosaur-themed amusement park run by their paternal aunt Claire Dearing. She gives Zara, her assistant, the task of guiding the guys, but they avoid her and go exploring alone. In other parts of the island, ethologist and Navy veteran Owen Grady has been studying the intelligence of Blue, Charlie, Echo & Delta while training a Velociraptor squad. Vic Hoskins, the chief of InGen security, thinks the raptors may be used as weapons because they can obey orders, but Owen and his aide Barry strongly disagree.

May 2015 saw the completion of production. On June 12, 2015, Universal Pictures released Jurassic World in theaters across the United States. Reviews were largely positive, and several reviewers said it was the finest Jurassic Park sequel. movie broke a number of box office records when movie came out, including the biggest opening weekend both domestically and internationally. It ended up earning a gross of $1.6 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing movie in the Jurassic Park franchise, the second-highest-grossing movie of 2015, the third-highest-grossing movie of all time at the time of its release, and the highest-grossing movie from Universal.
