Damien Leone is the creator of the American horror media brand Terrifier, which includes computer games, novels, comic books, & slasher movies. Sienna Shaw, a young lady destined to vanquish the mysterious Art the Clown, a diabolical serial murderer who lives in the fictional Miles County, New York, is the primary subject of the franchise. The book also follows Victoria Heyes, a deformed survivor who struggles with her mental illness and who becomes Art's collaborator after being taken over by the Tiny Pale Girl, a menacing spirit that accompanies Art. Art had previously starred in unrelated films that were short as well as the anthology picture All Hallows' Eve, which included the shorts. 

The franchise started in 2016 with a stand-alone feature-length film that included Art. The 2016 movie received a largely mixed review from critics. Terrifier 2 (2022) got good reviews and did well at the box office. Terrifier 3 (2024) became the highest-grossing unrated picture of all time after receiving largely good reviews and seeing even more success at the box office. On July 19, 2023, Terrifier was re-released in theaters across 700 locations. After Terrifier, Art is brought back to life by an enigmatic force to go on his murderous rampage throughout Miles County and his hunt for adolescent Sienna Shaw & her brother, younger Jonathan. Sienna & her brother are trying to put their broken lives back together after surviving the Halloween slaughter at the hands of Art the Clown. They attempt to escape the tragedies of the past and embracing the Christmas spirit as the holiday season draws near. 

But right when they believe they are safe, Art comes back with the intention of transforming their holiday pleasure into a brand-new nightmare. By July 2023, principal photography had begun. It was revealed in October of that year that the first teaser for the sequel will be released exclusively during Terrifier 2's worldwide re-release on November 1, 2023. The release date of Terrifier 3 was October 11, 2024. In February 2023, Leone revealed that he intends to create at least one more episode following the third movie, despite having earlier indicated interest in developing Terrifier 3 & Terrifier 4 back-to-back in 2022. The Little Pale Girl, Sienna Shaw, Victoria Heyes, and Art the Clown will all have their tales addressed at the franchise's conclusion, the director clarified. However, Leone hinted that after Terrifier 4's production is finished in November 2023, there might be more installments. 

The director has stated that his objective is to create an appealing franchise and a satisfying ending where you could watch it through from beginning to end to learn the journey as well as development of your characters... however, you have no idea what's going to arise down the line and that's the goal. Later, the author/director acknowledged that the franchise purposefully uses theological imagery, with the plot of Sienna's encounters with Art resembling an angel and a demon.
