 The 2021 American animated epic action adventure film Raya and the Last Dragon was made by the Walt Disney Animation Studios & distributed by Walt Disney Pictures. Don Hall and Carlos Lopez Estrada directed it, Paul Briggs & John Ripa co-directed it, and Osnat Shurer & Peter Del Vecho produced it. The script was mostly written by Qui Nguyen and Adele Lim, with additional contributions from Hall, Briggs, Estrada,  Kiel Murray, Dean Wellins & Ripa. It is based on narrative concepts by Bradley Raymond and Helen Kalafatic. The voices of Awkwafina, Kelly Marie Tran, Wang, Izaac, Benedict Wong, Jemma Chan, and Daniel Dae Kim are featured in Raya and the Last Dragon. In order to protect her father & the kingdom of Kumandra from the wicked spirits known as Druun, the tough princess Raya sets out to find the legendary final dragon.

 The project's development started in October 2018, then in August 2019, the title & voice cast were made public. In order to accommodate character & narrative changes, Disney changed a number of cast and staff members during production, including Cassie Steele, the originally announced main actor, who was replaced by Tran. Traditional Southeast Asian civilizations served as the inspiration for the movie. The filmmakers maintained genuine cultural representation while concentrating on a variety of settings and characters during the design and animation phases. On March 5, 2021, Raya & the Last Dragon debuted in cinemas across the United States. 

At the same time, Premier Access subscribers could see the film on Disney+. The COVID-19 pandemic caused the release to be postponed twice from the November 2020 schedule. The movie made $130.4 million globally and was the third most streamed movie of 2021. Critics gave the movie favorable reviews, and it was nominated for many awards, including Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards. The Druun, senseless spirits that transform everything in their path to stone, destroy Kumandra, a flourishing realm where humans and dragons coexist. The last dragon, Sisu, defeats the Druun by focusing her powers into a diamond, bringing back Kumandra's people despite its dragons. Kumandra's people are divided into five chiefdoms Heart, Fang, Talon, Spine, & Tail due to a power struggle over the jewel. These chiefdoms are named for the enormous dragon-shaped river along which they are located. The gem is still in the hands of Chief Benja from the Heart tribe 500 years later, and he teaches his little daughter Raya to guard it as a warrior princess. 

Benja hosts a feast for the five tribes because he thinks Kumandra can be reunited. The mistress member of the Fang tribe, Namaari, presents Raya a dragon pendants after they become friends during the feast. Raya shows her the power source gem's chamber because she trusts Namaari, but Namaari cheats her when she becomes part of a scheme to assist Fang in stealing the gem. Benja & the other tribes come after being informed of the attack, and they start to fight over the gem, shattering it into five separate parts.
